A great song by The Dears on Arts & Crafts from their Gang of Losers CD (2006).
The Northern Pikes - Echo Of The Beach
I first heard Neko Case a couple of years ago and, while never being a great fan of newer country music (though I do like some old bluegrass and traditional country) her crossover style really rang true with me.
Blue Valentines was the first Tom Waits CD I bought and this first track cover really defined my initiation into his music. While most of the remainder of the CD is similar to his 70s jazzier stylings, this is one of those songs that is a great introduction to people who haven't heard him before but know the song from West Side Story.
The Normal - Warm Leatherette
I would post the lyrics, but if you can read the title, you've got most of it.
I can't believe how many underground dances I went to where this became an synthanthem. It was actually recorded in 1978, but I definitely was nowhere near cool enough to hear it until a couple of years after.
I've posted this vid before at lovehatethings, but seeing as the word "time" is in there, and it's New Year's Day... sit back, watch and smile!
Bend Sinister - Time Breaks Down
