Nick Hornby's words and Ben Folds' music and performance... wow!
I've seen Ben Folds live about 8 times and play a bunch of his tunes whenever I get around to gigging. While I would be more than happy with Ben writing his own lyrics for this, how can you knock the pairing. Haven't been this excited about a CD in a while.
I can't wait until this drops in September.
Okay, while I'm not enamoured with the song, it's amazing how one change can turn what would be a mundane concept into something surreal and interesting.
Not the greatest video quality, but a great song. I would encourage all fans of alternative and eclectic music to dig back into this great Canadian band's discography.
Quirky. Brilliant. Intrinsically Canadian.
Great Lake Swimmers are a very cool Canadian band and this video is as unique as their sound. Mellow out for a few minutes and dig it.
So I love the music of Ben Folds. I especially love the song Zak and Sara. And I suspect that anyone who put as much time into this video as they did must love the song too.
"Sarah spelled without an H was getting bored on a Peavey Amp in 1984."
Just because this is one of the greatest songs of the 1980s and because I get to see the band in my hometown this summer.
I have always thought in the back of my mind, "Cheese and Onions".
I have always thought that the world was unkind, "Cheese and Onions".
Do I have to spell it out ? "C-H-E-E-S-E A-N-D O-N-I-O-N-S", oh no.
Man or machine, keep yourself clean
Or be a has-been like Dinosaur, oh oh-oh.
Man of advice for ev'rything nice
You'd better think twice at least once more, oh oh.
At Woodstock, Sweetwater was scheduled to open the festival, but due to band personnel issues, they actually came on second. As a tribute to band that was going to have the historical notoriety of that slot, Richie Havens incorporated an improv of their song "Motherless Child" into his legendary "Freedom" jam. I have never been able to listen to the Sweetwater version with anything other than a passing interest since hearing Havens' passion.
This clip may be a bit long, but it's worth it.
April Wine kicked so much ass it's not funny. I don't care there haven't had a hit for almost two decades. I saw them perform a year ago and they still kicked it. They may have had better songs than "I Like To Rock", but the nice thing is that this is the band at the rockingest even though it's shot at the gorgeous Le Studio in Quebec.
Congrats to Miles and boys for making the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
